This past fall Circle High School students Aubrey Martin, Riley Bump, Katelyn Paul, and Emma Johnson embarked on a journey through the Youth Leadership Butler (YLB) program. Aimed at connecting 11th-grade students from across the county, the program encourages collaboration and a shared mission to benefit the youth in the community.
Aubrey and Riley recently took the time to share a little about their experience:
What is Youth Leadership Butler?
Riley: Leadership Butler is an awesome program that selects students across Butler County to learn how to be great advocates and leaders in the community.
Why apply to Youth Leadership Butler?
Aubrey: I had been wanting to carve a path for myself, and help others and after hearing YLB’s message to help the youth in Butler County I felt like this was the perfect opportunity to do that.
What did you learn from your Youth Leadership Butler experience?
Riley: I learned to never take for granted the qualities and abilities you already do have, and to use your skills to overcome obstacles and reach your goals.
Aubrey: I learned how to collaborate with new people and how important teamwork and communication are when working on a big project.
Why would you encourage others to apply for the Youth Leadership Butler experience?
Riley: I encourage people to apply for YLB to help the community and leave a lasting impact on your future, this was a great learning opportunity!
Aubrey: YLB truly helped me come out of my comfort zone and try new things, which is very important in high school. This is the time in our lives when we are just discovering ourselves, and opportunities like YLB are what shape people into great leaders and adults.
Thank you Aubrey, Riley, Katelyn, and Emma for representing Circle Public Schools!
