This fall, the Circle High School Drama Department brought Beauty and the Beast to life and wowed audiences. Resulting in their efforts being recognized in a truly remarkable way.
Sixteen CHS seniors participated in the cast or crew of the musical during show weekend. Fifteen of those seniors have been awarded substantial four-year fine arts scholarships from Friends University. The 16th senior had previously earned a scholarship earlier this year through a Friends University audition. These participation-based scholarships are renewable for all four years, allowing students to pursue any major while remaining involved in the university’s fine arts program.
The recent high school musical production received high praise from Friends University, particularly from faculty scout Cindy Blasdel. Blasdel, who teaches music theory and aural skills and also accompanies the university's Concert Chorale, was thoroughly impressed by the performance.
"I thought it was an extremely well-done high school musical. It was very high-quality, and I was so impressed with the overall consistency of singing, acting, set design, and orchestra. It was obvious that a lot of thought and work was put into this because of the high quality of the final product," Blasdel shared.
This recognition highlights the incredible teamwork and creativity that made Beauty and the Beast a success. From intricate set designs and stunning lighting to powerful performances, the production was a testament to the students’ commitment and skill.
